Las Vegas Airbnb Turnover Cleaning: Floor Standards

Why Floors Decide Your Airbnb Rating: The Turnover Standard Las Vegas Hosts Need

“Floors were sticky. Found hair in the corners.” One line like that can undo months of five-star stays.

Guests form an opinion about cleanliness within seconds of walking in, and many do it barefoot. A floor that feels sticky, gritty, or hairy tells them the whole unit was rushed. For short-term rental owners, floor care is not a detail. It is a direct line to your cleanliness rating, your search placement, and your nightly rate.

The Las Vegas Floor Problem

Valley rentals face two challenges most markets don’t. Desert dust blows in on every wind event and gets tracked across the floor by luggage wheels and shoes; that fine grit scratches finishes when it is mopped instead of removed. Hard water leaves mineral spots and film when floors are over-wetted or left to air-dry. A turnover team that doesn’t account for both will leave floors that look clean but fail the barefoot test.

How Guest Complaints Escalate

  1. First notice: a guest spots a hair or sticky patch and lets it go.

  2. Doubt: they start scanning the rest of the unit for other misses.

  3. Review: they mention it publicly, and your cleanliness score drops.

Between-guest turnovers have to be right every time. A mistake that repeats across several stays compounds quickly.

Know the Surface Before You Clean It

The wrong product on the wrong floor causes damage that can require professional restoration or replacement. Our cleaners identify the surface first.

Surface

How to recognize it

Never use

Ceramic / porcelain tile

Hard, dense, cool to the touch; glazed or matte finish

Waxy “all-purpose” cleaners; acids on unsealed grout

Natural stone

Veining and color variation in each tile (marble, travertine, slate)

Vinegar, lemon, or any acidic cleaner

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP)

Wood look, slightly soft underfoot, waterproof surface

Steam mops, “mop & shine” products, heavy water

Hardwood

Warm to the touch, real grain under the finish

Wet mopping, vinegar, steam

Laminate

Wood look but sounds hollow when tapped

Standing water (seams swell and buckle)

Polished concrete

Smooth, glossy, often shows aggregate

Acidic or heavy-duty garage degreasers

Quick seal check: Place a few drops of water in an inconspicuous spot and wait five minutes. If it beads, the seal is intact. If it darkens or soaks in, the seal is worn; use dry methods only and schedule resealing.

The 5-Step Floor Turnover Standard

Products change by surface. The order of operations never does.

  1. Dry debris removal. Vacuum with a hard-floor head, working from the farthest corner toward the exit. Mopping over grit turns it into mud and sandpaper.

  2. Spot treatment. Pre-treat sticky spots and stains first so the cleaner has dwell time while the rest of the floor is prepped.

  3. Damp clean. Use the least water possible with a well-wrung microfiber pad. A properly cleaned floor dries in minutes with no standing water.

  4. Rinse pass. Go over the floor again with clean water to remove cleaner residue, the number one cause of sticky floors. Foam in the rinse water means residue remains.

  5. Dry and ventilate. Run fans or the HVAC fan so floors are fully dry before check-in. Detail-dry high-traffic areas and baseboards by hand.

Surface

Typical dry time

Hardwood

5–10 minutes

Tile

10–15 minutes

LVP

15–20 minutes

Polished concrete

20–30 minutes

Why Hosts Hand Floors to Professional Turnover Cleaners

  • Same result every stay: a documented sequence, not a different method each time.

  • Surface-correct chemistry: the right pH-neutral product for each floor, so finishes and seals last longer.

  • Early warnings: worn seals, lifting planks, and missing furniture pads get flagged before they become repair bills.

  • Coverage you can rely on: licensed, bonded, and insured cleaners in your property.
